Belize is one of seven Central American countries bordered by Mexico to the north, Guatemala to the west and crystal clear aquamarine waters of the Western Caribbean to the east. It is the smallest of all the countries, with a population of only 300,000 and Belize is the only country in Central America where English is the national language. Contrary to popular belief, this tiny tropical paradise is extremely easy to get to, only a 2-3 hour flight from such cities as Atlanta and Dallas.
The exclusive and charming island of Amergris Caye is located 35 miles northeast of Belize City. This narrow strip of paradise surrounded by the azure Caribbean is 25 miles long and 1 mile wide. The coastline is protected by the 190 mile barrier reef, the second largest living coral reef in the world. And while this exclusive destination has been a playground for the rich and famous, it is still a place where strangers greet each other on the streets and people travel around by golf cart.
